Synopsis:
Eizo has mastered mithril sword repair and is looking forward to new experiences, new commissions, and new metals! When a mysterious woman requests a custom katana, Eizo’s passion is ignited. There’s just one problem—the client is a demon, and her people have had a complicated and historically violent relationship with humans. Since Eizo desires a peaceful life, can his conscience withstand forging a god-tier weapon for humanity’s former enemy? Along with a new commission, Forge Eizo also receives a new family member: an adorable drake called Krul! Unfortunately, navigating wingless dragon ownership isn’t the only trial ahead. Aggressive monsters suddenly appear and start coordinating attacks, so Eizo must join up with military forces to defend the kingdom from the onslaught. Between forging a demon sword, fighting hostile beasts, and supporting his diverse household, can Eizo still make time for a quiet life? (Source: J-Novel Club)
Forge Eizo Welcomes Drakes and Demons!
Whilst wishing for a quiet life, Eizo’s family and troubles continue to grow as we enter the third volume. If having to welcome a new drake family member named Kurl and making a sword fit for a demon wasn’t hard enough, it won’t be long before Eizo is drawn back into the new lord of the land, Marius’ issues joining a brigade of troops to subdue a potential horde of monsters.
The most notable aspect of the latest volume is the author’s welcome attempts at building up the novel’s plot. With three separate main stories in the volume, I feel as though the series has finally found a good rhythm filling the novel with light-hearted, blacksmithing and action-centric plots within the same volume.
Kurl’s plot makes up the first third of the novel and makes for the more light-hearted family moments section. As the latest forge family member, Kurl makes an early impression as a lovable pet and the author has made good attempts at giving it a personality, whether it wants some pets or the creature’s contentedness when carrying water and goods. This plot also gives Eizo a good reason to improve the world’s conditions by inventing the world’s equivalent to suspension.
Moving from the pet plot, the second third of the story focuses on Eizo’s blacksmithing skills and introduces us to the demon race of the world. Nilda has come to the forge for a sword that may help her in battle against our favourite mercenary, Helen. There have been some troublesome relations between the demon race and humans in the past but that’s no issue for Eizo as their no longer at war anymore and thus agree to create a katana for her. Given the way this series usually develops, she’ll likely become a member of his family sooner or later.
The final part of the volume is more action-focused and sees Eizo putting his cheat fighting abilities to use, which we haven’t seen since the first volume. This is also the most interesting of the three plots as we get a good look at how monsters within the world operate coupled with an interesting cast of new characters. Federica acts as a go-between with Eizo and the soldiers giving him smithing orders to fulfil. She’ll definitely become an important ally when word of his abilities is widespread. Lidy also returns using the elves’ ability to severely hamper a horde leader’s power. This welcome return ends up with her becoming a full member of the family by the end of the story adding one more face to the forge.
Overall, the third volume of My Quiet Blacksmith Life is a stronger showing than its previous two. Featuring action, blacksmithing and more comedic style plots, there is an overall better flow and offers more for the reader the grab onto. With Lidy now a member of the forge, I’m hoping the next volume will give her a bit more of a focus although this may be hard to juggle as the next volume seems to suggest another character joining the family.

My Quiet Blacksmith Life Vol. 3
My Rating: 8/10
I hope you enjoyed my review and would love to see what you thought of the volume in the comments! I’m not sure what I’ll review next, maybe some more Doctor Who or perhaps Fushi no Kami Vol 4 +5. Whatever it may be look forward to it!
