Synopsis:
Yuki’s been reborn in another world as a demon lord—and his new life is going swimmingly! He continues strengthening his dungeon with his makeshift family of monster girls until, one day, a heroine arrives on their doorstep to take down the demon lord. Or, at least, that’s what she says before breaking into tears because the traps are too scary! Curious and unable to resist lending a helping hand, Yuki heads out to welcome the hapless heroine. The group then decides to take a trip to a human settlement with their new friend. They all have a blast as they go around shopping, eating, and sightseeing, but the fun comes to an abrupt halt when a ghost appears out of nowhere and starts attacking the townspeople one after another. Can the demon lord who just wants to live the good life pass judgment on this new enemy?! (Source: J-Novel Club)
A Demon Lord Goes Out on the Town!
I’M BACK!!!
Only two weeks away and already I have a mountain of new reviews to do. Starting off the several recently finished pre-pubs from J-Novel Club comes, Now I’m a Demon Lord’s second volume as Yuki comes face to face with one of the world’s heroes!
Fresh from his victory against the Prince, the series’ second volume brings many new changes to Yuki’s dungeon – including its design. The dungeon, now turned castle, will play host to many new visitors, including one of the world’s heroes named Nell. Whilst they don’t get off on the right foot at first, they soon become quick friends, with Nell offering to take Yuki and Lefi on a sightseeing tour of the town.
Shopping, sightseeing and chaos await them as all is not well within the town. Evil shadows lurk and cursed weapons line the streets, all culminating in Yuki’s greatest challenge so far, a monster stampede!
Pleasantly, Now I’m a Demon Lord! keeps growing from strength to strength. The series’ second volume keeps up the momentum by focusing on the series’ best aspects – humour and originality.
As in the first, Yuki’s personality and perspective on events continue to be a breath of fresh air. Crass and unapologetic, I always get a laugh out of his unfiltered opinion, whether it be bantering with Lefi or putting down the isekai world’s villains – even going so far as to call one of them a “cum rag.” His reactions never feel out of place within the context of the story.
This latest volume also sees development for Yuki’s dungeon. Now changed into a castle, this allows Yuki to unleash a host of new tricks on unsuspecting visitors. The first of whom to face its wrath is Nell, whose first haunted house experience will be something she’ll never forget.
Nell is a good character to add early on in the series. Being equal parts naïve and willing to learn, allows her to become quick friends with the dungeon gang as well as ensure a slightly more positive view of heroes for Yuki.
Nell, however, still pales in comparison to Yuki and Lefi’s relationship, which grows exponentially throughout the volume. Those looking for some nice, cute rom-com moments will find it in bucket loads here.
The two are constantly flirting with each other, something only made stronger with their sightseeing tour. Eating, shopping and bantering all in one go, their town tryst culminates in the strongest sign of good things to come. Yuki gives Lefi a ring at the end of the volume and as the extra chapter shows, I have a feeling it won’t be long before there’s some significant romantic development between the two.
Overall, Now I’m a Demon lord’s second volume is a fantastic sequel that continues to build on everything great in the first. With more crassness, more romance and more dungeon-building, there’s something for everyone in this series and I highly recommend it.

Now I’m a Demon Lord! Vol. 2
My Rating: 10/10
