A Volume of Cowardice and Resolve!
Taking a small break from the pre-pubs, my latest review focuses on one of my favourite rom-coms as it reaches its pivotal moment!
After advancing their relationship, volume four sees Amane face a host of new problems as Sports Day approaches. Mahiru, emboldened by her own feelings, has gathered the resolve to try and advance their relationship and make their friendship known in school. Will Amane be able to face his traumatic demons to confront the girl he loves?
As to be expected, volume 4 once again offers this series’ magical dose of sweetness and fluff in bucketloads, and with Mahiru now comfortable in her feelings for Amane, a high level of pampering and teasing is to be expected – much to my own and likely other fans delight.
The central core of the story, however, revolves around the final step and Amane overcoming his fears of rejection.
In trying to overcome this fear, the volume explores the breadth of his new relationships as each offers encouragement in their unique ways. His friends have been becoming more and more open in their goading and teasing, always trying to get Amane to take the next step.
This culminates rather well by the end of the volume, the climax of the Sports Day events as Chitose pulls some strings in the scavenger quest to ensure both Mahiru and Amane completely understand what they mean to each other and where they want their relationship to go next.
Mahiru also offers her words of encouragement. A well-written and telling scene in which we discover the true extent of how far Mahiru has fallen for Amane and just how much this relationship means to her. Amane will convey similarly during the confession – no spoilers on that front though!
Overall, The Angel’s fourth volume continues its wonderfully fluffy and cute atmosphere with a newly assured Mahiru. Tackling Amane’s fears head-on, the series offers encouragement on all fronts neatly squaring away the arc in a well-toned, serious confession, which will likely bring a squee out of anyone!
