Yuki and the Prince of Schemes!

Reaching the final of three pre-pub reviews, my third review of the week features the third instalment of the fluffy dungeon adventure series as Yuki sets on revenge against the Prince.

Now I’m a Demon Lord’s newest volume sees the story of Yuki’s revenge against the Prince continued. Travelling with Nell to the royal capital to exact a majestic beat down, he’s sidetracked when he discovers the Prince has set yet another scheme in motion.

The royal capital has come under attack by the undead and the royal family has gone missing. With his goal now to reach the royal castle and discover the truth behind this incident, Yuki’ll have to rely on the help of the church to flush out the prince and get the answers he seeks!

A Revenge Story

Decidedly more action-heavy than its previous counterparts, this series shows that it can handle its overtly comedic outlook even when dealing with higher levels of fights and gore.

Yuki’s fresh perspective on proceedings still manages to be one of a number of the series’ greatest highlights and the events of the third volume give Yuki no end of reason to come up with hilarious and unique insults. The undead, sadistic knights and vicious manticores – nothing can escape his blade or his harsh thoughts.

As for the plot, volume 3 brings in a host of colourful characters in line with the church, however, the most interesting aspects arise from the mystery’s solution. It seems that the prince hasn’t been in his right mind, or in this case, his own mind has been absent since he’s also one of the undead.

Someone much higher up on the food chain has been pulling the strings using demon lords to achieve their goals. At the same time, these revelations ensure the series and the mystery’s longevity going beyond volume-by-volume antagonists.

Living Swords and Fluttering Feelings

At the same time as Yuki’s misadventures, things have been moving along with the dungeon residents.

Another volume means more development in the relationship between Yuki and Lefi. This time, those living in the dungeon have come to help Lefi realise her feelings and give her advice on how to get closer to Yuki. The end result is a funny, out-of-character, kinder Lefi.

Moreover, the volume introduces yet another member to the dungeon and another reason for Lefi to suspect Yuki’s proclivities. En, a living sword has come to life and enjoying her time in a fun and loving environment rather than the world of constant hate and battle.

Overall, Now I’m a Demon Lord’s latest volume continues to be as fresh, funny and fluffy as its previous volumes. Upping the stakes in its mystery subplot and deepening the romantic potential are welcome additions that only go to ensure the series’ longevity.

Now I’m a Demon Lord Vol. 3
