Synopsis:

“For centuries, the world has been ruled in secret by a conspiracy of alien gods, seeking to harvest the souls of humanity for sustenance. They had wielded both the Holy Church and the Demon King freely, perpetuating strife between humans and magic beasts for their own twisted ends. But something has gone wrong. A girl, powerful enough to challenge the gods themselves, has been thwarting their plans one after another, assembling a team of powerful beings and even founding a new religion, threatening to steal their much-needed faith! Who is Kanata Aldezia, and what does she want? What passion or principle could have driven her to obtain such strength? The answer, of course, is simple—the fluff! Kanata doesn’t care for power one way or another, and she certainly has no intention of thwarting the gods’ wicked designs. She’s happy as long as she has fluffy critters to pet, and with Zaggy and Fen-fen now in the party, she’s on a keen lookout for a third. Maybe in that ruined castle?” (Source: J-Novel Club)

A Beast Tamer and the Mythical Vampire!

A Fluffy Vampire?!

It’s been a while since we last saw Kanata embark on a mission to find fluffs, but regardless of the long wait, I’m glad this series is back.

The third volume in the series focuses on yet another fluffy creature that has come into Kanata’s care, Elizabat. An ancient vampire, she comes under Kanata’s protection after being attacked by a branch of the church known as the Temple Knights.

Whilst receiving a similar fluffing torment as Fen-Fen and Zagiel, the relationship Elizabat wants with Kanata differs from the others. She’s looking for something more romantic out of Kanata, although the fluff-obsessive is having none of it.

An Extremely Strong Family

The Temple Knights are a troublesome enemy, requiring Kanata and the fluffs to seek protection and shelter, and who better to offer this than Kanata’s family.

Other than at the start of volume one, this is the first time we’ve been properly introduced to Kanata’s family. Being otherworlders and the previous generations’ strongest fighters, you could never expect them to be normal. Having all members of the family alongside Kanata’s beasts is a cause for lots of hilarious hijinks.

Some of the best moments arise from Kanata’s younger brother. He’s the only member of the Aldezia clan that could be considered somewhat normal. He has quite an amount of trouble trying to keep his family’s whims and fancies under control.

At the end of this particular plot point, the Aldezia’s manage to defeat the Temple Knights, signalling yet another defeat for the world’s Goddess.

A Goddesses Last Failure

The defeat of the Temple Knights is just one in a long line of failures the Goddess has suffered since Kanata became a beast tamer. This volume ramps up the Goddess’ humiliations severalfold as each of her vicious schemes are systematically collapsed.

Her plans were sound enough, choose the next person with powers just below that of a heavy soul to bestow hero-like powers to. It’s just a shame for her that logic doesn’t apply when Kanata’s around and that those with the next highest power level are all members of her family.

As a result of this string of failures, the Goddess is killed by her own kind. Although, I have a suspicion that she’ll be back as a fluffy creature soon enough!

To conclude, Beast Tamer’s latest volume continues to be a fun adventure filled with fluff and fantasy. This volume covers some important events within the story, including the introduction of Kanata’s family, as well as the fall of the Goddess. All of this paves the way for new and exciting character potential for the fourth volume.
