Guild Dives and Mythical Presences!
An End to Solo Adventures
Since his victory in the Remote Tower Dungeon, Rin’s dungeon-diving activities have started to garner attention. Collecting achievement after achievement and levelling up to B-Rank has meant big decisions for the protagonist at the start of the third volume.
With both the Yoizuki Guild and their star member, Claire, on a recruitment drive, Rin concludes that there might be some benefits to group dives. One of the big themes of the volume involves Rin learning how to use his abilities as part of a group. It’s a rocky journey featuring a steep learning curve. By the end of the volume, however, several candidates emerge whose skills could possibly synergise with Rin’s fighting style.
The new character, Claire, becomes the first obvious choice. Throughout this volume, Rin fights several dungeon bosses with levels well above his own. Claire could become a good stop-gap for this. She’s extremely high-level, one of the few S-Ranks in Japan, and her abilities connect with Rin, with him being able to wield her Ice Sword.
Hana and Ren could also become potential party mates in the not-so-distant future. Both have unique skills that could come in handy given the intricate defence systems higher-level bosses have.
A Vampiric Tyrant
Playing in the background throughout the past two volumes is the series’ mystery element. Starting the journey towards a reveal, a detailed explanation of how dungeons appeared on Earth has long been on the wishlist.
There are two major reveals as part of the volume. The first points toward the dungeon system having a semblance of intelligence. Having encountered a newly created dungeon, the creatures within or perhaps something more malevolent leads Rin and the team into a trap.
The second reveal comes at the climax of the story – dungeons are linked to other worlds. These beings have abilities on a whole different level than that of humans. They can manipulate mana more flexibly, and they, much in the same way Rin does, can bend the rules of a dungeon. The story’s first meeting with a creature of this nature is an intelligent vampire. Just one of a host of different possible species in the other world means a vast scope for the series’ future events.
Providing extra focus to the series’ emerging mystery subplot can only mean good things for the story. It opens up a vast amount of new opportunities, especially in the form of world-building, and can lead to limitless potential in terms of the types of enemies Rin faces and the overall strength they possess.
Overall, The World’s Fastest Level Up’s third volume keeps growing the series’ initial potential. With the series moving away from solo activities into one involving groups, there’s now more opportunity for interesting fight strategies and more complex dynamics to form between dive participants. Furthermore, the series made its biggest leap forward yet in terms of the mystery subplot. Adding other worlds and system sentience unlocks countless possibilities for future volumes.
