Synopsis:
Despite Mary Albert’s best attempts, the villainous downfall of her dreams has gone up in smoke. Worse yet, every bachelor under the sun is after her hand in marriage now that her family has garnered international renown! To get away, Mary decides to study abroad at the aristocratic academy of Elysiana College. Upon her arrival, another bout of memories from her former life flash through her mind as she realizes she’s entered the setting of Heartthrob High School’s sequel game, Heartthrob Higher Education! The new heroine seems intent on walking a darker path than in the game, however, and Mary now has every reason to believe she’s not the only one with recollections of a past life… Meanwhile, the possibility of Mary’s betrothal leaves Adi heartsick, forcing Patrick and Alicia to take matters into their own hands. Will Mary once again have to play the villainess? And will her servant Adi be forced to see his mistress married off to someone else? (Source: J-Novel Club)
A Villainess Abroad!
To Become a Real Villainess
Unsuccessful in securing her own doom, life moves on for Mary beyond the confines of the original Otome game. The second volume sees Mary continue to strive for a wild game restaurant by upping her business skills and choosing to study abroad at Elysiana College. Unfortunately, unlike causing her doom, getting stuck inside the plot of yet another Otome Game is unavoidable for Mary.
Like all good franchises, it turns out that Heart High had a sequel. Taking place at Elysiana College, it didn’t originally involve Mary from the first game. Hoping to take advantage of that fact, Mary looks to lay low. This doesn’t last too long as she gets yet another hanger-on in the form of Parfette.
A girl who reverts to crying as her natural state of being, Parfette’s break-up with Gainas is the reason Mary ends up looking into the world of a player attempting the reverse harem ending. Far from the acrimonious ending of the sequel game, this world’s heroine is looking to start a fight or several.
Now fully involved in the second game without all the consequences of the first allows Mary to fully stretch her wings as a villainess. Seeing the wiles of the heroine cause injustices to her friends left and right, she resorts to a whole new villainess arsenal. If it wasn’t clear already, whilst Mary may act like a tsundere, she’s extremely loyal to her friends, willing to do anything even if it means slapping the ever-living hell out of the sequel game’s heroine.
Wedding Bells and Happy Endings
At the same time as Mary is living it large abroad, her absence causes a whole lot of problems back home, especially for Adi. Feeling as if she’s moving on in life, Adi’s become more than a little lovesick.
Unable to stand back and watch Adi’s feelings go unnoticed, Alicia and Patrick hatch a plan whilst Mary’s away. True to fashion with the pair, they never do things in half measures, and their resulting meddling ends in a shock confession and not one but two weddings.
These scenes create the best moments of romance in the series so far. After getting married to Adi for the first time and learning that he has feelings for her, she finally has to come to grips with the realities of love. With Alicia by her side to de-mystify the strange feelings she’s been having, Mary’s ready to talk up her love to everyone, even if they figured it out long before she did.
When Mary and Adi are on the same page regarding love, the two decide to have a proper wedding, friends and scandals included!
Overall, Young Lady Albert’s second outing continues the high-paced comedy of the first. There are plenty of moments throughout the second volume to enjoy, from Mary going full villainess to several surprise wedding ceremonies raising more than a few heads.
Furthermore, the plot of the Heart High’s sequel is sufficiently different from the first go around. Exploring a reverse harem ending and a scenario with multiple heroines who aren’t villainesses provide a multitude of avenues to explore and develop, many of which are interesting prospects for exploration in subsequent volumes. This series is highly recommended for any villainess fan!
