A Noble Lady’s Journey Towards Self-Indulgence!
All the World’s Naughty Desires
Fleeing abuse and betrayal, A Crash Course in Naughtiness’ beginning finds Charlotte using her last ounce of strength to search for a safe haven. What she finds is the home of an eccentric wizard named Allen. A truly fateful meeting, the arrival of the two in each other’s lives leads to a journey filled with personal growth and an expansion of horizons.
Despite the story’s rather rough start and Allen’s initially forceful methods, this quickly changes when the two end up doing “naughty” activities and adventures together, filling the series with a cute and heartwarming atmosphere.
From eating sweets for breakfast, staying up past bedtime, and going on an expensive hot springs retreat – these normal self-indulgences help to take Charlotte out of her shell and slowly blossom into a confident young woman.
Taming and Independence
As the story progresses, both main characters grow in leaps and bounds as the two being in each other’s presence can only be seen as a good thing.
For Charlotte, her ever-growing confidence results in a healthy dose of willfulness and independence. From her meek personality developed after years of abuse and trauma, by the end of the first volume, Charlotte can make her own decisions and travel on journeys by herself, much to Allen’s anxiety.
Furthermore, Charlotte’s growth and independence are helped massively by the introduction of her skill. As in many fantasy settings, this world also makes good use of magic and skills. In Charlotte’s case, she ends up with a beast tamers abilities. A fitting ability for this cute series as fluffy creatures are always coming up to her looking to be pet.
For Allen, Charlotte’s presence at his home helps reintroduce him to wider society. Having dealt with betrayal in the past himself, meeting Charlotte shows him there’s still good in humanity.
With the two protagonists helping each other through vast trauma, it’s no wonder that by the end of the volume, romantic feelings start to come into play.
Overall, A Crash Course in Naughtiness’ first volume deftly handles its cute and heartwarming atmosphere alongside its more serious moments of trauma and a journey of self-discovery.
While the cute moments are great, the story truly begins to shine as it follows Charlotte on a journey of personal growth. As a young woman mired by a past filled with abuse and nothing but indifference, her journey alongside Allen sees her blossom into a capable and confident woman ready to face any adversary the world could throw at her.
