It’s business as usual for the latest episode of Will Trent, but is “Find a New Pond” good enough to rise to the level of CEO, or will it be stuck on an internship?

A Swan Song for Angie and Will? (Laughing Place)

After a thrilling two-part opener, the third episode in the season has Will back in the driving seat. The GBI, this time around, is investigating a series of boardroom poisonings. Meanwhile, Angie’s stay at the Waldorf Estates is starting to heat up, as life in suburbia isn’t always as perfect as it appears.

“Find a New Pond” is Will Trent’s return to a classic whodunit. It’s a style of story that suits the series well, and the rich family soap opera gives the writers plenty to play with. The exaggerated drama lends itself naturally to the crime procedural’s strengths, where it can utilise its signature joie de vivre to layer the unorthodox investigations that usually take place. This signature style can be felt throughout, and the scenes revolving around a swan autopsy and the precinct’s own version of a murder mystery dinner party use it to the greatest effect.

Playing Suspect (Disney)

Looking beyond the story’s signature style, there’s even more to find pleasing about this episode. In all but name, this episode is about Will and Angie. Having seen both of them look towards new chapters in their lives, this episode seeks to further this by observing their past and future relationship.

For Angie, these conclusions come at the end of a difficult investigation on the estate. Playing a larger role than in previous episodes, the choices about her future come at the expense of a dead swan that cracks an immigration sting wide open.

“Sometimes, a finger is just a finger.”

As the episode progresses, it quickly becomes apparent that the dead swan is an allegory for Angie and Will’s relationship at this point in the series. During her investigation, she learns that swans mate for life, leading her to question her future relationship with Will. While angry about the situation, her love for him is still there, and a reconciliation might be in the cards.

Will, meanwhile, has thoroughly closed the book on that chapter of his life. From the start of this episode, Will’s mind is made up, and only a reunion between the two can properly clear the air between them, despite Nico and Betty’s best efforts.

Fortunately, this episode isn’t all doom and gloom for Will’s relationships. This story serves as a reset for Will and Faith, with their partnership back in full swing and more at loggerheads than ever before.

Will and Faith are Back in Full Force! (Laughing Place)

A classic whodunit with style means back to business as usual for Will Trent in the best way possible. Mixing comedy and a focus on Will and Angie’s relationship is exactly what the series needed after a fast-paced start to the season. Everything clicks well into place and builds slowly towards a much-anticipated reunion between Angie and Will.
