“You’re a killer; own it.”

Will Goes Undercover (TV Fanatic)

Following on from last week’s investigation, Trent’s thirteenth episode, “One of Us Now”, finds Will deep undercover as he investigates a potential killer cult known as the Olas Collective.

What Happens in the Barn Stays in the Barn

Under the name Bill Morales, the episode starts with Will in the heart of the action. Having infiltrated the cult, he’s now playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse, attempting to collect enough evidence before he’s caught. From here, the tension in the story increases as Will digs deeper, discovering that Rain’s wellness retreat hides a series of isolationist beliefs that serve a much more sinister agenda.

Rain in the Throws of Cultism (Bleeding Cool)

Played by Robin Weigert, Rain makes for an effective cult leader and a vicious antagonist for Will in his current state of mind. Appearing all zen and spiritual is merely a thin façade, as those who go against her teachings quickly learn.

Rain is manipulative in the extreme, using her group therapy sessions to gather information and ultimately use it to control her followers to eliminate anything that stands in her way. This is something that Angie and Ormewood find out as they come across a member of the Olas Collective’s inner circle whilst on the outside.

A Drugged State of Mind

Unfortunately for Will, it doesn’t take him too long to get on the wrong side of Rain, earning himself some special treatment at the ominous-sounding barn. What follows is a trippy sequence of events as Will falls under the influence of some heavy-duty drugs.

Usually cool and collected, these scenes show a different side to Will. Manifesting an imaginary version of the GBI headquarters, he lays bare a mountain of anxieties and insecurities caused by his recent shooting (see episode 11), as everyone from the main cast turns up to tell Will what they think of him after the event.

Playing well within the context of the episode, it ends on an unfortunate note as it is once again disrupted by the reaffirmations of co-dependency between Will and Angie.

Will and Faith: A Reconciliation

Despite Will’s struggles during the episode, there is one silver lining for him waiting back at HQ. Over the past several episodes, his partnership with Faith has been on the ropes thanks to the secrets he’s been keeping from her. However, after the events of this episode, she’s started to come round again.

As part of a side plot, she finally gets to talk to Jeremy, who tells her the truth of the situation. While still mad at Will, she understands the few choices available to him at the time to try to save Jeremy from a long stint in prison.

Faith Confronts Jeremy (Laughing Place)

After a weaker episode last week, this week saw the series back in full form. “One of Us Now” provides a terrifying look at the world of cults thanks to the outstanding performance of Robin Weigert. The episode also gave some much-needed insight into Will’s state of mind as well as a resolution on his partnership with Faith, ultimately opening up a set of interesting scenarios for possible future storylines.
